ThrillerFest and People Magazine
Just back from Phoenix and the first International Thriller Writers conference, ThrillerFest. I had a great time, met a bunch of new authors, chatted and lectured on all manner of subjects, interviewed Sandra Brown (who was a delight), and signed a lot of books. I also learned this weekend that the current issue of PEOPLE magazine selected BLACK ORDER as one of this "Summer's Hottest Reads." That was a surpise!

During ThrillerFest, the International Thriller Writers also announced the winners for their debut awards at a gala celebration, an award that has been branded and named simply “The Thriller.”
For those interested, here are the winners: 2006 BEST NOVEL THE PATRIOTS CLUB by Christopher Reich (Delacorte Press)
2006 BEST FIRST NOVEL IMPROBABLE by Adam Fawer (William Morrow)
2006 BEST PAPERBACK ORIGINAL PRIDE RUNS DEEP by R. Cameron Cooke (Jove)
2006 BEST SCREENPLAY CACHE (Hidden), screenplay by Michael Haneke
And at the end of the evening, a special award was granted, an award recognizing an illustrious body of work and for many contributions to the thriller genre.
2006 ThrillerMaster Award Clive Cussler
Mr. Cussler accepted the award with much grace and good humor, ending with a rousing standing ovation. It was an honor to shake his hand afterward.
Next up: off to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston, San Diego, Bakersville, and Anchorage. So I hope to meet as many of you as possible!
