The World Ends on Tuesday...May 25, 2010

Or at least that's when The Doomsday Key hits stands in paperback. I hope you enjoy the mayhem!

A few words about the new release. The book will be coming out in a slightly oversized paperback with larger print. Already some of my older books are out in this format in bookstores and grocery stores. Just between us, it still sort of freaks me out a bit when I'm buying peanut butter and dog treats to see one of my books on the grocery store shelf. Even after so many books, I can't quite believe it.

So what's this novel about? I'll let Publisher's Weekly do the honors:

"Genetic manipulation, traitorous beautiful women, illuminated manuscripts, saints, prophecies, curses and miracles. Rollins deftly juggles all this and more as the Sigma team races from the depths of the Vatican to the outer reaches of Norway toward an explosive confrontation with the shadowy… Guild."

A few other accolades for this book:

  • "Thrill-a-minute adventure."— Fort Worth Star-Telegram
  • "A must for pure action fans."— Booklist
  • "Action-packed storytelling."— Sacramento Bee

So in a nutshell: Mayhem.

But just to give equal time. Here's a reader review from Amazon:

  • "I could not wait to finish, so I could go watch my lawn grow!"

Hey, I can't please everyone, but it's not from a lack of trying.

I also wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported my books, shared them with friends and families. The Doomsday Key hit #2 on the New York Times Bestseller list when it debuted in hardback. And the only reason that happened was because of all of you. THANKS!

Now go outside and watch the grass grow.

have to disagree with the writer of the "I couldn't wait to finish, so I could go watch my grass grow!". I found "The Doomsday Key" so thrilling and actually scary I had to slow myself down and really let my mind grasp what was being said! After reading it I spent a serious amount of time doing some research on what Mr. Rollins gave us at the end of the book!!!!!! A "open mind" willing to learn more after reading something becomes just that much more intelligent. "watching the grass grow" sure doesn't enrich the mind.

Uh, James? I was out watching the grass when all of the sudden the lawn started moving as all the insects contained therein made an exodus for the street taking refuge on the asphalt. I don't know about you, but I'm not going back out there... Thanks for signing my copy of The Judas Strain at the Roseville Barnes & Noble in February.

I'd have to strongly disagree with the comment on amazon... I could not put the book down! (which is not unusual when reading any of the Sigma series books). I had thought Doomsday Key was the last book in the series since I just started reading them this March, and when I found out about the 7th book in the series I was elated! The combination of science, art, architecture, technology, suspense, subtle romance and comedy, twists and violence makes these books unlike any others. I can truely say I have never enjoyed reading any other author like I have reading James Rollins. So happy to have been recomended this series!

Peanut butter and dog treats, eh? Maybe that's why the dog ate the library's copy of The Doomsday Key! I had to pay for that copy and buy the Kindle version so I could finish the book. No way I was going back on the waiting list for another copy!

I can't stand grocery shopping, even for cat food and peanut butter...and sometimes I forget my list...but it sure does please me when I can stop, view the book aisles and see how much you have progressed in just a few years. It slaps a smile on my face while standing in front of so many books by James Rollins on the grocery store shelves, and that Fred Meyers has put you in the "Popular Authors" section, on the top row! Yahoo! And it's not because your new paperbacks are taller, for they have most of the smaller versions of yours on the top. I don't know if that is what some folks call "History in the Making", but it's great to see such a wonderful writer finally being recognized for a change, even if it is in a grocery store. Two years ago they had you on the bottom shelf! How Rude! You have progressed to the top! You are Tops on my bookshelf too! Now...go do some hand and finger exercises...you need to write more fabulous books! Happy Writing! PS...who the heck has the time to watch the grass grow when there is great books by James Rollins to be read?!!!!

I'd have to disagree with the comment on amazon. I couldn't put it down and I can't wait for the next one.

Just a short note: I just finished The Doomsday Key and all I can say is wow. The way you weave history fact with fiction while all along keeping the action level up is brilliant. Looking forward to going "back to the beginning" and read the others. Just sorry it took me so long to discover your work! Cheers, Mark

James, Greetings. Just to let you know, I am currently at Singapore airport awaiting my transfer connection to Australia. Spotted the Doomsday Key paperback on the shelfs in a store called Relay. I have already bought the hardback version when it came out on Amazon.uk, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Regards, Reggie

The Latitude & Longitude listed for Venice are actually for Rome in The Doomsday Key

I don't know who the idiot on Amazon think's s/he is but they must have read the book upside down! No accounting for lack of intellect and imagination...I can only say that, for me, I started reading your books from the beginning and I have not stopped. I am always in a hurry to get my hands on the next one...now, maybe we can get a glimpse or insight as to what is really in store for Pierce and his lovely Guild "operative".

Your books are fantastic!! Bring a nurse I was totally turned around by the facts presented by you in The Judas Strain (90% bacteria and 10% human cells ( so much for detoxing). Am headed to the library for Human Wildlife for soma answers hopefully. You are truly amazing-the way you base fact and fiction keeps me spellbound. Can hardly wait for more Sigma books. I'm 65 yrs old-watching grass grow? Give me a good book by Rollins and I'm so happy. Thanks and keep them coming!!

A great read, and some thought-provoking material as well! Bravo for using the "discredited" Forester-Meadows studies as the pivotal dilemma around which the heroes and villains joust! At least some scientists are rethinking this issue too. (See American Scientist, May-June '09, p.230 ff).
