I want to see what you have to say. Based on what the Bible has to say, the earth will one day be destroyed, but not until Jesus returns and there are 1000 years of peace. After that time of peace, the Lord burn up this world and will make a new heaven and new earth. Until the Lord's return there will be signs in the moon and sun. Earthquakes will increase. There will be trouble as never seen before. We are in the beginnings of this time. Jesus is coming soon. Trust in Him. :)

I'm fascinated by what the ancients had the capacity to do. I would not be surprised if they had recognized a trend in Earth's activity or a movement in the sky and calculated an eventual result. A lack of sophistication does not mean a lack of intelligence, just because they did not use electricity or computers does not mean they could not think or reason.

For everything that begins, there must be an ending. Such is the nature of humanity's understanding of the universe. Whether the ending is metaphysical or physical, we cannot imagine an existence without it. It is, however, interesting to examine the possibilities. I'm fairly certain that if we're still around for the end, it will be a surprise.

I may have this wrong, but I thought the calendars just ended Dec 21 2012 rather than predicting an end to the world. If that's so then there are a host of reasons for a calendar to end. do you have calendars of the future?...how far into the future do they go?...for all we know the other calendars were looted long ago or the maker could have died before he had a chance to continue. I don't believe the Mayan people were either more or less intelligent than we are...I believe lived as we do and they died as we shall..

Gotta agree with Leonard. Just because there are no more busty beauties, cuddly kittens, or hot rods on your calendar, doesn't mean the world is going to end. It means you have to go buy a new calendar. I buy mine in March, so IF the world ends, I didn't blow $12.95 in December, and the same one is only $1.00.

Your other reader is correct, the Mayan calendar is not about an end to the world, but an end of the calendar, an end of the cycles. It's all a crap shoot from here on out! But hey, if it takes you to that place where you create and we, your readers, get to enjoy it, then call it what you will! :-)
