3 Favorite Books of 2008
Wednesday, December 31, 2008
I was recently asked what were my 3 favorite books read in 2008? They are:
1. THE HUNGER GAMES by Suzanne Collins (Stephen King's Running Man for the YA bunch)
2. THE CHARLEMAGNE PURSUIT by Steve Berry (because he made me list this and because it's true)
3. THE ROAD by Cormac McCarthy (read it in one sitting, and it still disturbs me)

I bought both "The Last Oracle" AND "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" and read them both the first week. Hungry for more. All I can say is that you made the Indiana Jones book more exciting than the movie. I guess I'm getting spoiled. Or Harrison Ford is getting too laid back to play Indie anymore, though I can't think of anyone to replace him. *sigh* I guess there won't be anymore Han Solo, either. The only thing that remains the same is R2D2. Do you have anymore Sigma 9 plots in the old boiler?

Oh, one more thing: MY two favorite books (besides yours) this summer were (and still ARE) "The Gift" and "The Shack."

I have read and own every one of Mr. Rollins books. I consider them a "gifts &wonders" to the readers minds eye. I consumed every word off every page with the need of a opium den addict! Such experiences for the imagination and need to be taken into the pages of a book are met with such greatness how does he do it!. As I like to say as did Oliver Twist "May I have more please"

One more comment Between Mr. Rollins and Steve Berry what else is there to read. Well I guess I have to admit I read seveal other authors but we won't tell Mr. Rolllins & Steve Berry. Gentlemen I thank you for lifting my spirit to new heights each time I turn a page in your "gifts" to your readers!

I have read every one of James Rollin's books. It seems he has not visited Australia yet (LOL!). Maybe something with some mysticism centering around Ulru. Keep up the great work!

I enjoy the books in the Sigma series and also the witches books, that you wrote under another name. I am looking forward to your future releases.

I was reading Steve Barry's The Venecian Betrayal today, and found a line about Paitner Crowe of Sigma Force, and said to my self, whoa, wait a second, wrong author. So, I had to come and check out your web site. After reading this blog post, I kind of thought maybe the two of you were freinds. I think it is great that two great authors can share some charactors. Maybe we will see some Cotton Malone intereaction with sigma force? I do love your writing, so I was happy today to see that you also write fantasy. One of my favorites, I can't wait to read some of yours.

I picked up Judas Strain on the run at the airport. I didn't want to get to my destination it was so good. Then I had to go get all of your books! I work with Special Forces and you certainly have the mindset and technology stuff down. Of course I had to ask my DARPA friends about "killer scientists": you know the line "if they tell me, they'd have to kill me", it's on a need to know. LOL. Body Armor is one of my programs at the Command and I had to ask about the liquid body armor. Fascinating reads. You feel like you have learned a lot as well as being entertained. You have a fan for life! I guess I will have to try a Steve Barry book.

I must add, Mr. Rollins wrote the Godslayer Chronicles, under the name of James Clemens and if you're into fantasy novels, these are a must read! It's only a two book series, but they are absolutely fantastic! I can't say enough about them. I turned all my friends onto these books and they thank me constantly about them. The books are titled Shadowfall and Hinterland by James Clemens (aka. James Rollins) And Mr. Rollins, I must know if there will ever be a third Godslayer book! This series, for me, passes Lord of the Rings, and Pullman's Dark Materials (Golden Compass/Subtle Knife/Amber Spyglass) to #1 on my fantasy novels list! Yeah, I just said that! Great work Mr. Rollins! I LOVE your books!!!

I love and hate your books, they keep me on the edge of the seat, but they leave me fretful for weeks over all the true scary facts in them, seas devolving, viruses wiping us all out! I have a particular fascination with the whole language and DNA mentioned in Judas Strain, my goal is to locate and read the article mentioned, you might even motivate me to go back to Uni and study science like I originally wanted. My favorite new authors of 2008 are yourself, Chris Kuzneski (Sign of the Cross and Sword of God), and Andy McDermott (The Hunt for Atlantis, The Tomb of Hercules and ...the third one my aunt still hasn't returned..Excalibur I think). Can someone please come up with a name for this new genre of book I'm in love with, international epics, with science, history, military/police sort of action? Five of my favorite authors write this style of story but I have no name for it!

After just reading the comments, I have Steve Berry's book, brought it the same day as Judas Strain (I'm a horrible judge book by cover girl) I will read it once I'm done with Sigma and Sword of God. (Can't wait to see Painter mentioned). You write fantasy as well? You know I really can't afford to keep tracking these books down through my bookshop! But I must have them. Keep up the good writing, ..and maybe could we see a movie deal in the future? I'd love to see anything from Sigma Force on the big screen.

I read Hunger Games was one of my favorite books. I'm still waiting for the second book of the series. While I wait I'm going to read the Last Oracle. Oh, by the way I finished Judas Strain and Black Order and they were awesome. I'm still researching things related to quantum physics because of Black Order. You rock!
