On the Road (sort of)

Friday, June 26, 2009

I just thought I'd pop on here really fast and share some photos from the big launch event here in the ol' hometown, Sacramento. The event was at a Barnes &Nobles. They were kind enough to serve cookies and drinks, which was a good thing as the event ran for about three hours. Below is a pic of the line:

I really enjoy doing events across the country, but there's something special about sharing the debut with hometown friends and family. Though they are going to kill me, here is a picture of my two younger brothers, Chuck and Bill. They were the earliest victims of my earliest "storytelling" and still bear the psychic scars from them. The kids in the pic are my two nephews, Mack and RJ.

Oh, and speaking of friends, here's a picture of me posing with a beautiful woman named Shay Rosauro. If that name sounds familiar, she's featured as a Sigma Force character in the book The Last Oracle (now you can put a face to that character!). She is going to kill me for posting this.

Okay, I've duly humiliated friends and relatives. If you'd like to see more of this signing, it was taped by a great videographer who is editing it as I type. We'll have that entire book talk and signing aired on the web here in the next couple weeks.

And speaking of all things "taped," I mentioned in the previous posting that I was about to fly off to New York City for a signing there and appearances on Glenn Beck's radio and television show. The radio show was live and was lots of fun. Nothing like talking about the end of the world over coffee! Also Glenn was hilarious (and very warm and personable). Don't see how he manages 3 hours of radio, a TV show, and writing books like Common Sense that hit #1 on all the bestseller's lists across the country. I'm still exhausted just thinking about it.. I also owe Glenn a huge THANK YOU for all his support for the books. He even went out of his way to Twitter about reading Doomsday Key! As to the television show, we did tape a segment together, but due to the overwhelming news cycle this past week (from philandering governors to deaths of idols), the segment has been moved. It may air next week, though it's slated at the moment for Monday, July 6th. I'll do my best to post whenever I know anything more firmly.

So what's next? I fly out tomorrow for Arizona. Saturday night is a huge event at the Scottsdale Library, featuring Clive Cussler, myself, and Brent Ghelfi. And it's a potluck! So food AND books, always a great combination!

I'll do my best to keep everyone updated here, on Facebook, and through stream-of-consciousness postings on Twitter.

See you all on the road!

Jim

Really enjoyed the post. Glad for you the event was a success. My brother and sister-in-law in Phoenix are fans of you and Clive, and I emailed them the link. Hopefully they'll show up. Great idea using a blue table cloth. Looking at pictures of me sitting at a book signing without a table cloth, well, I look so exposed. - Steve Tremp http://www.stephentremp.blogspot.com/

Congratulations on your latest work - it feels epic! Meant to catch you in the green room at KMAX (I work there) but I got caught up with work and missed you. I also missed you at B&N today (am sick!) so maybe another time. As an aspiring author, your work and success is an inspiration. Regards, Mike

And? Did you get spanked so far by Shay and your nephews for publishing photos of them here? ^^ I'm glad to hear your event was great. It's a pitty I wasn't able to be there, but it's a long way from Berlin... Kind regards, Anj http://anjastrilek.wordpress.com http://buecherknabbern.wordpress.com

Hi! Any chance of a book signing in the Philippines? I've chanced upon your sigma series from Steve Berry (who's books I've come to love). I started reading your books and influenced some of my friends to read it too. I'm now on my 3rd book and can't wait to finish it.

Love ALL your books! I see you are doing a lot of travel promoting your latest novel and was wondering if there are any events you are planning in southern California? Best wishes and keep writing!!!

Just a quick note about the event in Scottsdale. . .Clive and James with Brent had a great discussion about their writing, along with interesting stories about their first books - a telepathic marsupial living under the ice still seems like science fiction to me too, James, but we are all so glad you made it to mainstream fiction where we all read voraciously. Thanks for so graciously signing each of my books with an individualized signature designed for the titles. They will be a memory of meeting you that I will revisit each time I share one of your books with reluctant readers - who haven't a chance of remaining reluctant once they are sucked into your amazing plot lines.
